Content Filtering Consolidation: Websense acquires SurfControl

Content Filtering Consolidation: Websense acquires SurfControl I was quite surprised today to learn that Websense will acquire Surfcontrol. I’ve had good experiences with Websense and I wonder if the economics behind this merger / aquisition won’t affect these products.

Apparently Websense will integrate Surfcontrol’s email security filtering capabilities int a new generation of Websense products, but  there is always the very appealing market share and partner channels 🙂  to be taken over.

This is the email I received :

Dear Websense Customer:

Today, Websense, Inc. announced its planned acquisition of SurfControl, a provider of secure content management, which demonstrates our commitment to providing customers with total content security solutions that address the ever-changing threat environment.

This transaction will allow us to combine the strengths of both companies in product and channel programs to create a stronger organization with more compelling solutions, at competitive prices. In addition, Websense will enhance its value to customers through:

– New, innovative solutions delivery options, including an on-demand, highly scaleable, software-as-a-service offering for web and email security, powered by BlackSpider®

– A total protection solution including new email security offerings in addition to Websense’s current best-of-breed web security products, at compelling price points

– Increased global presence leveraging SurfControl’s international footprint in geographies, such as Europe

– Larger network of global resellers for improved responsiveness and coverage for customers

Websense is committed to delivering to its customers a continually expanding, best-in-class product portfolio.

We greatly value our relationship with you and will continue to update you as we approach the close of the acquisition. In the meantime, to learn more about the transaction and what it means to you, please visit our website
