McAfee Releases Web Security Solution in the Cloud Based On Secure Computing WebWasher

McAfee Web SecurityOn November 17, 2008, McAfee acquired Secure Computing and Webwasher turned out to be a very important asset for McAfee because in less than 6 months they have turned the appliance based web security gateway into a global service, being one of the first security vendors to offer Web Security in the Cloud.

Wikipedia describes OPEX as "the money the business spends in order to turn inventory into throughput" and this is best observed in "quick-sand economics" like the current global downturn.

The features of the new Security as a Service (SaaS) named McAfee Web Protection Service include:

  • Reputation-based web filtering based on TrustedSource network
  • Anti-Malware protection using proactive. behavioural analysis
  • Remote offices and user support offering central management for remote branches and mobile users alike.
  • Transparent user authentication offering in-the-cloud authentication and authorization services
  • Easy to use policy manager which allows for a quick implementation and enforcement of company’s security policies
  • Informative reports and dashboards which provide insight into how employees are using the Web and what threats have been derailed.

I’m surprised not to see anti-phishing protection delivered from McAfee’s SiteAdvisor product family.

I wish McAfee best of luck with this new business line and I hope I’ll get a demo account for hands-o testing of the above features.
